Transmission Repair & Replacement
The Transmission is a sophisticated device that intelligently converts and transfers engine rpm to the wheel rpm. This is accomplished with its gears, sensors, transmission fluid, and clutches. Transmissions wear over time and depending on the age of your vehicle, may need to be repaired at some point. Because of complex transmission design, complete overhauls or rebuilds are recommended.
- Symptoms of Transmission Problems
- If your car or truck is displaying one or more of the following symptoms, it requires attention by a qualified transmission mechanic:
- Hard shifting during acceleration
- Screeching noise when depressing accelerator pedal
- Smoke and/or strong burning odor emanating from beneath the vehicle
- Inability to change gears (always stuck in low gear)
- Inability to drive in reverse
- Repair or Rebuild the Transmission?
- Depending on the diagnostic code report, it may be possible to repair your current transmission. However, because the transmission must be removed from the vehicle for to confirm the failure is limited to the diagnostic, most mechanics agree performing a complete rebuild is prudent.
- Rebuild or Replace the Transmission?
- If you choose to have your transmission rebuilt, should you have your current transmission rebuilt or get a rebuilt replacement transmission? If the transmission housing is intact, it can be rebuilt, however, a replacement rebuilt transmission is ready-to-install and eliminates guesswork of what needs rebuilding.
- Turnaround Time for Replacement Rebuilt Transmission
- If a rebuilt transmission is available for your car or truck, the transmission can be replaced and tested in 5–7 working days.
